Project: No.43
Location: London
Year: 2021

A defining project to launch the studio, Atelier LK curated ‘No.43’ at the former home of Hackney artist Ron Hitchins (1926-2019), a self-taught artist and flamenco dancer from London’s East End, and the very heart of the exhibition. No.43, the pale pink Victorian townhouse on Malvern Road, Hackney, was a home which he filled with his creative spirit and artwork.

That creativity lies within the very bones of the property; from his wood panelled dance studio, extensive collection of hand sculpted ceramic tiles, to the brutalist fibreglass front door. As an ode to this, the exhibition brought together a small, curated collection of Ron Hitchins’ work, and that of 36 emerging and leading contemporary artists and designers.

The brief for the exhibition was for the artists to respond to the unique space, either in being inspired by the space itself or the work and life story of Ron Hitchins, who was a true creator. Each room in the Victorian villa was curated and designed as a home, housing Atelier LK’s own collection of 20th century furniture and objects, with designers including Tobia Scarpa, Axel Einar Hjorth, Angelo Mangiarotti and Charlotte Perriand.
